Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep. (Acts 7:59-60) Just been to a really ace and challenging service at Church. It was a quieter crowd than usual (with the congregation being thinner on the ground after Christmas services yesterday). Chris who was leading the service was on top form however and spoke about St.Stephen - with it being St.Stephen's day (who is the patron saint of headaches - or as Chris put it men in the evening!). He was challenging us to look at where we serve, where we speak the message of the gospel and the price that we are willing to pay to do this. Very inspiring stuff that I'm sure I will be mulling over, over the next couple of days. Am currently sat listening to Good Charlotte (Thanks for the Christmas Pressie Josh), eating some youghurt covered raisins (David), staring at a Jesus Action Figure (Ruth) and wondering when I'm going on my boat trip (Helen!). Christmas was most fantastic (even if I was and still am a bit snuffly and heavy headed), Midnight Mass avec David, Sue and Chris rocked (!), Santa thankfully brought us the usual mix of essentials - pants, sock and deodorent! The service in the morning (10am!) was a grand way to remind us of the reason for the season and was quite brilliant, Al and Chris doing a great job mixing fun and meaning together. Lunch was superb the spread was most glorious and tasty! Presents in the afternoon were also grand, I have such great family, extended family and friends - they all seem to know me so well (hurrah!). The evening was spent watching some television and having an early night (what with midnight mass, an early morning the and a service the next day). Also made sure to video the C4 thing on 'Who wrote the bible'. Shall be watching that this evening and telling you what I made of it! In the meantime you can always check out a guide to the bible I wrote for one of my assignments last year at The Bigfattoothbrush Bible Guide. Anyhow going to the Greenwoods now (Mother's getting a bit het up because we should have left by now). Have a great day, read Acts chapter 7 and 8 and see what God says to you about service, the message you have to deliver and the cost to you. God Bless... Saturday, December 25, 2004![]() Merry Christmas, may you have a most wonderous day and remember the reason behind the season. God Bless... Loving Father, help us to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be Thy children, and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake. Amen! (Robet Louis Stevenson) Friday, December 24, 2004![]() Christ is the reason for the season, he came to Earth and one day he's going to come back - cummon! It's Christmas Eve and I'm sat in my dressing gown listening to Feeder doing a bit of web-editing and CSI watching before going to Paul and Emily's house this afternoon. Have been hearing from all sorts of people over the past few days which has been really nice (Hiya to Nadine, Helen, Sarah, Sam, Ally and all in DRAT!) I now feel very Christmassy. This evening have our traditional Christmas Eve beef roast (with lots of lovely visitors) and then I'll be going off to Midnight Mass with my mother - on return I shall open this silver envelope from Helen that has been annoying me (in a nice way - I just want to see what is in it!) and is sat by my computer! All other presents shall have to wait until tomorrow afternoon after lunch! Yesterday was really quite a nice day (though I did have cabin fever at one point!) got my dapper suit, watched some CSI, visited Ally and went to Willoby's nine lessons and carols with my parents. The service was pretty fantastic - straight down the line no messing readings, carols, large choir (with a humourous firey director!), and an organist. Couldn't have asked for better. No technology either (which was quite refreshing), there was no heating either which wasn't quite so good - it was rather chilly! The church was packed and afterwards the warm mince pies and mulled wine was super thing to be offering (I had a good few mince pies and had to hold a glass of wine though I wasn't drinking it to 'look good' at my Father's instruction. My mother has been cooking bread again this morning and the fresh aroma is once again rising up the stairs reminding me that I haven't yet had breakfast and am feeling rather hungry! Really looking forward to the days ahead, It's so good to be with my family and also good to be reminded how God came to earth as Jesus! There's no greateer reason to celebrate in my oppinion. Have a very Merry Christmas. God Bless... Thursday, December 23, 2004![]() What is it? I just really do not have a clue. The envelope is silver and highly sellotaped, there's some sort of card and present in there and I can't open it until Christmas day... It's nearly lunchtime in the Guilder household, the smell of bread in the breadmaker is wafting up the stairs making me feel rather hungry and making me wish I'd had a slightly more substancial breakfast than a quickly eaten half bowl of cheerios. The reason for eating the Cherrios at such a speed was that it was 'Suit Buying Day'. The day which happens once every two years or so when some guy sticks a tape measure around you and comes out with all these different things that you should be wearing that actually fit! Today's 'tape measure monkey' (!) was very complimentery, saying I had a very narrow waist for someone with such wide shoulders (yeah I nearly choked on thin air too) though he did loose some marks as he near fainted at the width of my neck! Anyhoo a new suit and empty wallet later I was walking around town, grabbing a copy of the times (from GT News just like old times) and speaking to the traders on the market (also like old times). That was before returning home sending some e-cards and deciding to update my blog. Last night was really good at the Drama team thing. It was really nice to see all the old team again and they were all in fine spirit (though at one point I did think I'd gone to the old people's home when a conversation on cheese with cranberries in started). Also said hello quickly to Paul and Emily who were watching the Simpsons, Emily had broken her arm falling off a piano stool and was ever so desperate to tell me all about it! Still doing design work at the moment. Made my brother a site yesterday that he's just got to go through and fill the information in on. I think it looks pretty swish using a bit of old school imagery and image maps with new school CSS and blogs! Got some other (more secretive stuff) under my hat (well stored on my PC) that I'm working on too which all in all is very exiciting. Anyway bread must be ready to eat by now! God Bless... Wednesday, December 22, 2004![]() I'm lucky enough to have seen so many angels. Every day I come across those who get on with the work that God has put them on earth to do without fussing, those who encourage, those who edify, those who live a life of intercession. They're the angels I see and they're the angels God see's too! Good morning (because it is a good morning - Feeder back on the computer, Cheerios for breakfast, brother still in bed not annoying me yet, hot shower about to come up, nearly Christmas!). Am doing some web design on the angel site I have mentioned before, it is really coming along now, just doing some tweaks and sorting out the hosting and the blog that will be on it. Also going to convince my brother to have a site today and sort that out for him - at least I can then hear what he's actually getting up to. Today's pretty quiet in the context of the past few days, I have an evening meal with the drama team I was once in but that's about it! I'm considering going out and buying myself a long tweed coat but the weather does look awefully minging. Anyhow I'll be going out tomorrow down the market visiting the guys that I used to work for and with - see who's still in the game and all that. Anyway Matt has now awoken and has gone to make me a mug of tea (how kind of him, must be something to do with the fact that Jenny is around!). I'm going to go and jump in that warm shower, make myself fabulously fragrant and a lot cleaner! Have a really good day. God Bless... Tuesday, December 21, 2004![]() Got my digital photos developed at Max Spielman's today which was jolly exciting! Wow, Christmas claws ever and ever nearer. Being back at home has it's good and bad points (one of the ones that fits into both catergories is a computer with broadband - great for using bad for spending too much time using) but at the moment it's mainly good. Had a good time last night with all sorts of people (including the lovely Ally Arnold and my lil bro Matt), there was a lot of wine around - though I was more interested in tap water and the crisps that were on offer! Went shopping this morning with my mother and then out for dinner to spoons in Loughborough. Had a mixed grill (which I last had two weeks or so ago with Helen at spoons in Exmouth) which was jolly tasty. Got my photos developed off my digital camera from Saturday. There are some great shots of Helen, Sarah and me at the tea shop in Budleigh which we went to, and a couple of good ones from the pub in the evening (luckily no shots of the dancing!). Spent late afternoon / evening writing an update and creating some Christmas cards which is quite cool. The latest updates can be found in the Update section of the site. Got good things to look forward to tommorrow... I'm going to buy myself a long tweed coat (from a charity shop somewhere!) and I've got an evening engagement with the Drama team that I was part of for years as a teenager until around 2 years ago. It will be really great to be joining them again and seeing how they are. I'm still on a high, Christmas is nearly here, I'm loving being at home, the only thing I miss is the lovely Eggleston family (hello if you're reading) and the lovely Exmouth people - Sarah, Judy, Abi and especially Helen (hello to you too!). Anyway my Dad has just commented that I have spent A LOT of time on the computer today, I probably should have a mug of decaf tea and consider an early night after watching an episode of Fawlty Towers or something! God Bless... Monday, December 20, 2004![]() Have travelled back home on the train today - what a lovely experience A miracle happened today, I used the train to get from Exeter to Derby and not only were the two trains I took both on time but they were both pretty good journey's as well! Mr Cowen gave me a lift to the train station which was grand and I was accompanied by Helen to Bristol Parkway. Also saw scottish lesley on the way as well which was rather bizzare!! Am now back at home sat listening to Feeder wondering what I should do with this fantastic Christmas time that I have got - there will probably be a lot of going out and meeting up with people (including a drama team meal, having the street around for mulled wine and mince pies and going to my cousin Amanda's wedding). I'm really feeling rather hyper at the moment (think Mother and Father have noticed) and am literally jumping and skipping everywhere. Carrying a large hoddal of presents back from Exmouth might have something to do with it! The Friday night celebration was great - the tableux was incredible and highly moving, the kids were brilliant signing to Cliff Richard and a good section of the community turned up! The Sunday Carol service at Brixington was one of the best services I have ever been to. It was FAB! The readings and the carols and the fun - plus there were shed-loads of people! All in all a good weekend for services. Saturday was also a great day - went to Budleigh with Sarah and Helen, shopping, drinking tea and eating lunch upon the box. Me and Sarah also had a Chinese sat in her car at the seafront with a candle on the dashboard - a classic moment in the life of Andrew Guilder! Anyway my mother is shouting for me to go downstairs for a minute. As the obedient child I am I shall obey this command. God Bless... Thursday, December 16, 2004![]() Have been spending lots of time learning CSS and Blogger tags for better web-creation, well worth it I think! Hello, it's a bit murky outside, it isn't cold or snowing like it should be and today is Thursday the 19th of December which means a couple of things. It's one day until the Christmas Celebration at Brixington in which I'm being a soldier, ut's four days until I get the train back from boringly mild Exeter to flipping freezing Loughborough and it's only nine days until Christmas. Wow how exciting! Today haven't got too much going on, with Supergang finished there's no club to plan for or run so instead I'm going to help Abi put together bunk beds and I've got a catch-up lunch avec soup and bread. Currently in the midst of creating some websites and some blog templates. Making a very stylised site using a picture of a baby angel which is really cool. Shall post the link when it get's to a viewable stage. As part of this I have been learning more CSS and blogger tags which has been really useful and is meaning that I can now create some pretty cool pages... Have now got a good collection of Christmas cards attached to my bedroom door (including a couple of good ol' hand made cards) and they are looking very pretty and remind me of the festive season everytime upon entering or leaving my room! The house is fully decorated and the tree (which is very large) standing proud. I'm currently looking into the whole photo blog thing so I can show you how cool it is (just need to find four batteries!). Anyhoo off to have breakfast, a shower and to buy a copy of the times. God Bless... Wednesday, December 15, 2004![]() Been doing lots of cleaning today, only problem is that I'm no so dirty I need to clean my self (hurray!) Hiya. Might have noticed got the old quote on image thing back. It's not because I have a new laptop or anything but because of 'theGIMP' which is a fantastic free image software program that I am slowly learning how to use (overtime I'm sure that it will be part of my software collection that I love - along with Firefox, Thunderbird, Office and FIFA!). As already mentioned today I have been doing a lot of cleaning. Me and David went along to help Abi clean out her garage. It was really minging and dirty and there were lots of live things running around which I bravely stood against (by handing David a piece of wood and telling him he could take them on). After cleaning it out and white spiriting the place back together again we reloaded the remaining items into the garage - all in all a pretty good piece of work. Currently working on a couple of blog templates that I want to create for some friends and family. These will give me a backbone so that I can hand them around to other people to use as well (which will be very neat!). It also gives me something to do in this week of nothingness that is the end of term and allows me to have a creative channel! Anyhow, I'm off to read the times and to drink my decaf tea. God Bless... Tuesday, December 14, 2004![]() I'm going to see Feeder! Hey it's not until April but does that mean I can't be excited? Yes as I have hinted over the past few weeks I have been overtaken by 'Feedermania'. This morning I completed the madness by buying tickets too see Feeder at London Brixton Academy for April 2nd 2005! Looking very much forward to that - glad I got a ticket - originally wanted to go to Birmingham but the tickets had sold out as they had to the first London gig as well. Wahoooooooooooooo! Finished most of my Christmas shopping now (horray!), wrapped it all up yesterday (after getting my tidying done and swimming). Had a meal with Mel yesterday which was really nice (at the deer leap) and with Judy last night up at the prayer room (which was strangly funny and good!). Today I'm going to sort out my CD collection and probably start going through all my paper work too! Also want to chat to Katie and see if I can get an idea of the order of service for the Christmaa celebration on Friday and see what I'm expected to be doing in it. Anyway I'm sure that there's some decaf tea ready to be drank and some crumpets with red leicester cheese waiting to be eaten! God Bless... Monday, December 13, 2004![]() I wonder if she knew; Mary as she held her child in her arms. When nine months previously an angel had visited her. When she could have lost everything, but still chose to say yes to God. I wonder if she knew about the baby she carried inside her for nine months. As she mothered her child, did she know he’d been sent to die? Well hello. My laptop is no longer in use! I am currently typing on the house computer that the family have been kind enough to let me use. A new computer will be on the way some time in January when I'm going to be looking out for a bargin during the January sales. The price of having my power socket re-resined in between a three piece chip was too high (around £300) and the chance of it actually working too low (20%). Taking this into account I decided to say goodbye. So now laptop (which will mean less posts until I get a new PC). Youtwork has nearly finished for the year. The Christmas celebration on Friday is coming up which I am REALLY looking forward to. Was slightly sceptical at first but after rehersal yesterday afternoon was amazed at how awesome the message is! We are so evangelistic! It's grand! On the other hand went to a service which wasn't very good last night. This 'youth of the nation' style service didn't seem very youth friendly or challenging either. The message was lost under a blanket of hymns played on guitar (didn't work!) and 'interesting' drama pieces from other churches. Shame really because there was an audience there. Maybe the focussing on individuals was sacrificed to put on a big event - something we could all do with learning from. This week I'm doing a lot of tying up loose ends and I'm beginning to prepare for 2005 (odd trying to do it without a PC). It's tidying up day today, I'm also going swyming with Josh, meeting with Aussie Mel and going for a drink at the Devoncourt tonight to admire the Christmas lights. Helping Abi sort out her garage on Wednesday (sure that'll be fun), have the aformentioned Christmas Celebration Friday and on Sunday have a Christmas Meditation and Prayer in the morning followed by a Carol Service (for which I'm doing a reading - hurrah!) in the afternoon. All in all a very good week. Feels like the end of term now, looking forward to going back home on the 21st and seeing my family and having Christmas! Anyway onto the tidying! God Bless... Wednesday, December 08, 2004![]() Christmas preperation could almost suck the fun out of Christmas, but I'm not going to let it. Just a quick entry. Please pray for my laptop by the way as the power keeps dying and the battery and the power cord don't seem to be speaking to each other. Been preparing for Christmas getting some shopping in and stuff - really is hard on budget and listening to lots of Christmassy music in the process. Today I'm nipping along to the Cluster Christmas shindig and I've got a 'evangelistic' talk type thing to sort out for Friday which should be grand. Anyway, going to buy the times them I'm going to get some work done. God Bless... Tuesday, December 07, 2004![]() I like to think that I can light up a room as I walk into it! Days don't usually get more bizzare than Monday's when the last of the caffine is running out of your system! I spent the morning doing some web stuff and researching Shawn Mac Donald (who I later interviewed for a whole hour - he was an incredible guy and when I post the interview I'll let you know cause it is really inspiring). Helen came round with the request that I go down the beach to help her find an earing she had lost the previous day. I thought it was like looking for a needle in a haystack but lo and behold we actually managed to find the tiny little thing! I had scrambled egg on toast for lunch before doing the interview with Shawn. I had expected to only have around 10 minutes to talk to the guy instead I had an hour! Incredible and great though I was holding Ruth and Helen up who were wanting to walk up to Claire's and the Prayer Room respectivly. Went up to the prayer room which was good but very challenging. Did some praying (!) and was just reminded of God in the small things. Feel like I'm going to get reminded about God in the big things too over the next few days. Just about to go into town to grab a few last bits of Christmas shopping. I haven't got all that much money at the moment so I'm having to do things on the cheap! Quite a challenge that is. Anyhow battery on laptop about to go, things to do, decaf tea to drink. God Bless... Monday, December 06, 2004![]() I feel tired - not sleep wise (I got around 10 hours last night) but generally! Christmas is coming, workload increasing, nights out decreasing. This week I've got an alternative service to plan for Friday using the new Band Aid tune. Trying to make these kids remember how lucky they are but also trying to put the Christ back into Christmas! Had an interesting. Met my friend Helen's parents who were very nice people, she also heard her grandfather had died which was not so good and she was quite upset (as an empathiser when others feel upset I do too). The Christmas meal in the evening was good with housegroup folk. Good fun and a lot of laughs. Sunday School went OK as well with a modern nine lessons and carols of sort! Kinda rocked really. Didn't get to do as much chilling on my own as I would have like to have over the weekend but that's ok. Two weeks before a good holiday - looking very much forward to it. Today, going up to the prayer room for a bit, got an interview with Shawn MacDonald for bigfattoothbrush at 2.30pm which should be good. Am looking forward to that very much. Then this evening I might try the whole relaxing thing! Have got some updates to the site that I want to do - like links list and to put some useful resources to download as well. See if I can squeeze it in. God Bless... Friday, December 03, 2004![]() About to go out and play tennis with David - another oppourtunity to show humility by loosing! Still listening to Feeder (I haven't been all night), Seven Days in the sun and choke are my current favourites (if I was alone they would insue the most individual moshing!). Got a good day ahead - tennis with David, and interview with U.S. group Pillar (how cool!) for bigfattoothbrush.co.uk and youthgroups this evening (YO and Powerpack). Not too much to add really apart from - IT'S FRIDAY! I've got the whole weekend to myself! HORRAY! Have a good, God blessed one! God Bless... Thursday, December 02, 2004![]() Sitting listening to Feeder, rediscovering how good they really are and how much they rock! Sat listening to my Feeder playlist on Windows Media player, it's pretty rocking I tell you. Had a discussion today about blogging and it's point. Is it to inform, is it to blow off steam, is it to talk about stuff that you never would etc. It was really quite interesting and it challenged me to think - "why do I blog?". Sitting now with blissful tune that is buck rodgers playing, I think I'm the kind of person that blogs to inform. To say what's happening. I do think other's blog to let off and to get stuff out, I also think some people blog to say stuff that otherwise might stay bottled up. Hey I blog cause I like it - I like looking back at what I did and my horrific grammer and spelling (!), there's really nothing quite like it! Listening to Insomnia now (which earlier today I was dancing to funnily enough) recollecting on a day that has been great (and not nearly quite as cold!). This morning I had the brainwave to make little boxes for Supergang (5-7 year olds) which we would fill with peppermint creams that we can make next week. Great idea, but a lot of work for me (and Ruth & David who I got to help)! The boxes had to be made for the kids to decorate so I had a day of making boxes - yeah that's youthwork is all about! They did appreciate it tonight which was really good though! Suupergang generally tonight was a grand affair. Everything just seemed to fit and work, and the rendition of "Great Big God" at the end was stormin! Also made a monolgue/music mix of Mary and how she obeyed God (mixed to Noel) with Helen today, which sounds really good. Might upload a dance remix(!). Got a relaxed weekend coming up. The Egglestons are going away so it gives me a chance to chill with the whole place to myself. Got some cooking I'm going to do (like a practice run of the peppermint creams and some mince pies - just because I've never made them before), also want to sing and dance around - something that would usually be more than slightly disturbing for everyone else. Anyway the bed is calling out to me telling me to get an early night and my media player is telling me that "She's my anthmn" - useful that! God Bless... Wednesday, December 01, 2004![]() This morning I woke up and was frozen to my bed - really I wasn't being lazy and sleeping in! I have spent most of today being cold!! My head had been cold, my bum has been cold and my feet (you've guessed it) have been cold! It wasn't the only thing I've done though - I'm sure you'll be glad to know. After a time of personal bible study looking at Ephesians 4v17-5v21 I did some welcome to the winter cleaning of my lovely little laptop. 2 hours later (and 4 GB of space cleared up) and I was walking down to the new craft shop to buy some Christmas Card making material (yeah really life can't get more exciting!). This afternoon I finished buffing up the laptop (!) before a bit of shopping (where I bought nothing) and then a tennis game with David (where I was pants). I have now warmed up a bit and have decided not to sleep with the window open again! You learn from your mistakes. God Bless...
